About Me

Handmade by Jodie

Hello, I’m Jodie – the hands, heart and creative spark behind by Jodie.studio

From a young age, I’ve always been drawn to all things artistic – constantly making, creating, and collecting anything shiny I could get my hands on. That love for creativity has stayed with me throughout my life, evolving into a passion for jewellery making, photography, and floristry.

My journey into silversmithing began thanks to my auntie, who introduced me to the world of handmade jewellery and passed on her early tips and tricks. What started as a hobby has grown into something much more – now, I create each piece by hand in my little home studio, originally nestled in the heart of Perthshire and now moving with me to Glasgow. I’m a self-taught silversmith, constantly learning new techniques to refine my craft and tell stories through silver and sea glass.

Jewellery making has taught me resilience, dedication, and the joy of building something from scratch. I use 100% recycled silver, hand-picked sea glass, and plastic-free packaging because sustainability is at the heart of what I do. Sea glass holds a special meaning for me – growing up visiting the Isle of Islay, where my mum is from, I’d spend hours collecting shells and colourful glass on the beach. What once felt like treasure to a curious child now inspires my work: each piece of sea glass is naturally tumbled and polished by the sea over years – sometimes even decades – shaped by nature into something beautifully imperfect. What others might overlook as “rubbish,” I see as an opportunity to create something meaningful.

Alongside jewellery, I work part-time for a lovely florist in Glasgow and also create bespoke floral installations for small businesses. My creative energy also spills into photography – especially film photography – where I find joy in capturing life’s fleeting moments, whether that’s in the Scottish Highlands or the rainforests of Central America. I’ve always had a love for the natural world and wildlife, and growing up, I was fascinated by the photographers and filmmakers who captured those moments. My favourite film, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, especially fuels my passion for shooting on film – there’s something magical about knowing you only get one chance to capture a moment, and embracing it for exactly what it is.

I come from a family who run their own small business, so supporting other independent makers and local creatives is something I hold close to my heart.

With the support of friends and family, I continue to build this little creative haven – and my hope is that by sharing my story through videos, future blogs and content, I can inspire others (especially the next generation of dreamers and doers) to follow their passions and carve out a life that brings them joy.
